Trip to Cortona/Orvieto

Accademia took us on a little road trip to Cortona and Orvieto. They are two small cities just north of Rome. Here are the pictures I took.

This is looking off the edge of a cliff outside of Cortona.

This is the cemetery at the church just outside of Cortona.

This clock tower can be seen in Under the Tuscan Sun. If you watch the movie you will see children singing Christmas carols on a set of steps. This clock tower is just to the left of the stairs.

This is an Etruscan tomb. I don’t really get what it means to be Etruscan so if you want an explanation, google it, and when you figure it out let me know.

This is the bus we take on every Accademia trip.

This is our bus driver, Agosto, and to the left of him is our tour guide/teacher, Claudio.

When we got to Orvieto, I saw this posted outside of a cute little shop and it made me think of the one and only Stella I know.

This also made me think of her. If I didn’t have a million other things to bring back with me I would have gotten this for you Stelly Belly.

This is the famous church of Orvieto. It is stunning if you catch the view from the side. The stone alternates in color switching from black to white every other row.

The story behind this piece is that one day a priest was doing communion and when he went to break the bread in half blood came out. The blood was supposedly stored in this.

This automatically made me think of Jeffrey. You know why.

Orvieto is famous for their white wine and for some reason they have dead boars all over the place. I saw this one and a random boar head kicking in randomly on the wall of some random building. Random.

I found it interesting that there was a MLK Jr. picture.

This is one of those bathrooms that you pay to use and they are supposed to be super clean. Not the case. There was water all over the floor and everything was wet. I was so pissed that I paid 50-eurocents to use this. WTF?
